I had mixed feelings about visiting Athens. Many people had told me it was “just another big city”, but I desperately wanted to visit the Acropolis (another fangirl moment!) and of course, that’s smack bang in the middle of Athens!

Crete
After a couple of hours of relatively smooth sailing, we crept into Heraklion harbour.
I’d chosen the Megaron hotel because it was near the harbour and I’d read good reviews about their service. It was only about a ten minute stroll from where we disembarked the ferry, so it was easy enough to drag my bags there. The hotel was lovely, with beautiful rooms. Mine had a view out to the harbour, which was fabulous!

Santorini

We didn’t see many of these iconic blue-roofed churches – apparently they’re mostly in Oia, on the other side of the island.
After waving goodbye to J at Istanbul airport, the final four of us flew out to Santorini, via Athens. The trip was uneventful apart from a pretty heavy landing in Santorini – so much so that a few of us were checking the back of the plane as we disembarked to see if we’d had tail strike, but it appeared not.

Bodrum and Kos
To get from Goreme to Bodrum was quite an effort, including Victor driving us to the Konya train station for our night train to Izmir, then a taxi to the bus station, then a public bus to Bodrum, then a taxi to the hotel. Phew!
