Bali Day 5 – Going Home

It was with mixed feelings we packed up and set off for the airport (after one last massage, of course!) We’ve had a great time in Ubud, but it was time to go home and go back to work. We’ve done some amazing things, like the elephant and horse riding trip, haggled for bargains and not so great bargains, eaten yummy new food, and I even saw a firefly on the last night! We would both really recommend the hotel, Green Fields Ubud, as they made the holiday fabulous. Nothing was too much, whether it was transport, bringing us Ginger Fizz drinks when it was really hot, organising massages, etc, etc. Even though it’s a bit out of the way of the main drag on Ubud, it’s worth it for the exceptional service and gorgeous setting.

The trip to the airport during the morning took an hour and a quarter, half an hour longer than the midnight ride when we arrived! Even so, we arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spend our last few thousand rupiah on touristy souvenirs, pick up some duty free to take home, and wait for the flight. And wait. It ended up being two hours late, but at least we made up some time on the way back home, and only got to Perth an hour and a half after the listed time! The in flight entertainment didn’t work, either, but at least I had some TV and books on my phone to keep me amused.

Quarantine were very thorough in checking everything when we arrived home – much more so than I’ve noticed on my other arrivals home. Every one of the bamboo fans I’d brought home were unfurled and checked for bugs, and K’s new shirt even had the wooden buttons scrutinised. Great to see they’re doing their job so exactingly! We managed to get into the queue at a good time though, and were through the bureaucratic business within about twenty minutes. Then home at last, where the cat and dog were very pleased to see me.

What, no more Nasi Goreng for breakfast???
