Today we wandered back to Piazza San Marco in our efforts to find breakfast. My earlier idea about eating GF in Italy has taken a bit of a blow, as we ended up having gelato for breakfast as there was nothing we could find that wasn’t pastries!
Lunch was grilled prawns and polenta, which hit the spot much better.
After lunch and booking our train tickets to Florence tomorrow, we took a tour out to the three islands – Murano, Torcello and Burano.
Murano sounds fabulous, glass factories etc, but all we saw was a quick glass making demo and the glass shop! The prices were staggering, so we didn’t avail ourselves of the opportunities… We did manage to find a quick latte down the road though!
Torcello was pretty, with an old church to look at. We spent most of our half hour at another cafe, drinking limonate and listening to bad karaoke for someone’s birthday party!
Burano was the best (Yes, Lynne, you were right!) with gorgeously multicoloured buildings. Burano’s famous for lace-making, so we watched a quick demo, then had a wander. Picturesque and a lot less hustle-and-bustle than everywhere else we’d been! We would have been happy to spend more time here.
We’ve finally found some wireless net access in a little cafe/bar a few streets away from the Rialto Bridge. Rest time!
